ALIT Academy Magazine n. 4 has been released

The fourth issue of ALIT Academy Magazine features a very interesting article on how to optimize the costs of chemical paint stripping processes, an overview of our new spray system for metal passivation – Drizzling – and a few interesting articles that showcase life within the company.

ALIT has always stood out for its dynamism and flexibility thanks to a careful and constant study of the market and its needs. Our mission is to always absorb the market’s requests, make them ours and then offer the best solutions.

This is the case of Drizzling, our new application process for the chrome-free passivation of metal products. Drizzling has been developed by listening to the market’s needs. This cutting-edge technology allows to apply a pollutant-free passivating solution to the manufactured items, ensuring an easy and steady chrome-free performance.

In addition to Drizzling, in this issue of the magazine we will also discuss a very important current topic: energy saving.

The increase in energy costs, as well as the continuous increase in chemical raw materials and waste disposal costs, have pushed us to tackle and develop alternative methods to use paint strippers compared to what is considered a standard.

We will showcase the advantages of combining the use of chemicals at lower temperatures, with stirring systems as well as with spray and ultrasound systems. Suitable products with different technologies will allow companies to achieve excellent results minimizing, at the same time, the operating costs.

Finally, in the pages of the magazine you will find as always, a few accounts of the everyday life within our company. As our employees are as special as much as their families, we thought of letting our children experience a day at the company. During the preparations for the Aluminium 2022 trade fair in Düsseldorf, we enlisted the help of the children to build a Lego version of our Fastrip machines, which we then showcased at our booth to show visitors how the systems are made. This experience was wonderful and there was a lovely synergy between parents and children during the workday. We will certainly repeat this experience in 2023.

We wish you a good reading and, most importantly, a Happy New Year!

ALIT Technologies Presented the Dosing and Application System Drizzling

Drizzling is an innovative process for the application of chrome-free passivation products for all metals.

During the trade fair Aluminium, that took place from 27th to 29th September 2022 in Düsseldorf (Germany), ALIT Technologies has showcased its new dosing and application system for the passivation of metal components Drizzling.

As it is extremely compact and easy to install, it allows to apply a constantly fresh and contamination-free passivating solution to the products. Drizzling is a complete dosing system capable of automatically managing the mixing of demineralised water coming from a feed tank with the exact quantity of passivating chemical product, thus obtaining an optimal and always fresh solution to be dispensed directly on the surface of metals.

The use of special atomizing nozzles and compressed air enables the Drizzling system to homogeneously produce and distribute a fine and light mist of passivating solution that completely envelops the product, even in 7-meter vertical lines for aluminium profiles.

It can be combined with chrome-free chemicals, including titanium and polymer based ALFICOAT 748/3 from ALUFINISH GMBH & Co. KG, in order to guarantee excellent results in the passivation process both in terms of corrosion protection and paint adhesion.

The article was published in the 78th issue of ipcm® International Paint & Coating Magazine (November/December 2022).

ALIT Technologies launches Drizzling, a new dosing and application system for the passivation of metal parts

ALIT Technologies is pleased to announce Drizzling, an innovative process for the application of chrome-free passivation products for all metals.

ALIT Technologies, a leading manufacturer of machines and products for the surface treatment of metals, is pleased to announce the launch of the dosing and application system Drizzling.

The treatment of metal surfaces ensures good durability over time and provides protection against oxidation and corrosion. There are various surface treatment processes aimed at this purpose. One of the most significant and widespread is certainly coating, which is only the last (but not least) step of a chemical process that includes several intermediate stages in which parts are degreased, pickled and passivated. It is in this last phase that the Drizzling system can make a difference.

Drizzling consists of a complete dosing system capable of automatically managing the mixing of demineralized water, coming from a feed tank, with the exact quantity of passivating chemical product, thus obtaining an optimal and always fresh solution to be dispensed directly on the surface of metals. The use of special atomizing nozzles and compressed air enables the system to homogeneously produce and distribute a fine and light mist of passivating solution that completely envelops the product, even in 7-meter vertical lines for aluminium profiles.

This system is extremely compact and easy to install, and its main advantage is that it allows to apply a constantly fresh and contamination-free passivating solution to the products: a further reassurance for the customer, who can count on an improved performance of the passivating product.

Furthermore, the new dosing system developed by ALIT Technologies can be combined with chrome-free chemicals, including titanium and polymer-based ALFICOAT 748/3 from Alufinish GmbH, which guarantees excellent results in the passivation process both in terms of corrosion protection and paint adhesion.

The ALIT Technologies team previewed Drizzling at Aluminium, the leading trade show for the aluminium industry and its main fields of application, which took place from 27th to 29th September 2022 in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Improving Extrusion Dies Cleanliness with Claris 9346 MB

Claris 9346 MB is an innovative liquid additive specifically developed to reduce costs and cleaning times of extrusion dies for aluminium profiles.

Every company that produces aluminium profiles uses extrusion presses to transform the aluminium billets into profiles with the most varied sections. After each use, the dies of the extrusion presses – which give the shape to the profile – have traces of solidified aluminium that must be completely removed before storing the dies until they are mounted of the press again.

The dies are usually cleaned by heating caustic soda baths, that bring the aluminium residues into solution through an exothermic reaction. However, this process involves the consumption of large quantities of soda ash, which must then be dismissed of at the end of the life cycle of the bath. Furthermore, the corrosiveness of soda ash and the high operating temperatures generate corrosive and dangerous fumes, while the formation of sodium aluminate fouling implies continuous maintenance work.

ALIT Technologies has therefore developed Claris 9346 MB, an innovative product that allows to obtain a more efficient cleaning process, reducing costs and cleaning times of the extrusion dies. Claris 9346 MB:

  • Improves the overall cleanliness of the dies, facilitating the dissolution of the residues gathered in inaccessible points.
  • Significantly increases the service life of the bath.
  • Maintains the temperature of the bath at about 90° C, thus reducing fume emissions and evaporation consumption.

In the article published in the 77th issue of ipcm® International Paint & Coating Magazine (September/October 2022), we explored the technical characteristics of Claris 9346 MB and presented the case study at the Alumec plant.

ALIT Academy Magazine n. 3 has been released

The third issue of ALIT Academy Magazine features the products and technologies that will be presented at Aluminium 2022.

Despite this very difficult period due to raw material costs, war in Ukraine and political instability in several countries, the industrial market is still responding very well so far. Generally, pandemic restrictions seem to show a downward trend from last year, letting us hope they will not affect the market for next fall/winter. Next fall, we will be also actors at the ALUMINIUM trade fair, which will be held from 27 to 29 September 2022 in Düsseldorf, Germany.

After several years of forced stop, we can finally come back to be exhibitors at this important fair, a long-awaited event and mostly, a milestone for the entire chain of the aluminium market. For this reason, this issue of ALIT Magazine wishes to be mainly addressed to ALUMINIUM fair.

The original installation for chemical stripping of hooks and frames, FASTRIP ISP, born in 2014, has been totally renewed and enriched with several features adopted during these years of developments and experience in the market. We were pioneers in this project, always focused to improve the process, both from a mechanical and chemical point of view and at the same time, improving the filtration system. Today, the FASTRIP ISP stripping tank has reached a high degree of efficiency, it is easier to use and offers high standards of results also thanks to development of new paint strippers such as METALSTRIP 1465.

We have recently developed an additive product to be used along with caustic soda solutions for extrusion dies cleaning. The product differs from other products on the market thanks to its several features: it has been developed to keep the process management as simple as possible; it allows to keep the bath temperatures under control, thus extending the lifetime of the baths by monitoring the dissolution of the aluminium. It is therefore a cost-saving product that enhances the caustic bath lifetime.

In this issue we will show you how paint stripping can help companies to recover paint-defective items on high quality finished products, such as aluminium doors. A real support to companies, especially during periods of significant loads of work.

Finally, ALUMINIUM will be the perfect opportunity to introduce an important ALIT development: Drizzling!

Drizzling is our new application process for chrome-free passivation metal products. It is a spray process that allows solutions to be applied through the atomisation of a fine mist capable of wrapping the item, especially developed for 7-metres vertical lines for aluminium profiles. This system has been developed to reduce water consumption after the passivation stage and, most of all, allows to apply a pollutant-free passivating solution to the manufactured items. This ensures an additional assurance for the customer, who can count on a chrome-free product’s performance always being at its best.

In conclusion, we are once again ready to show you several innovations, as well as applications of our processes and products.

We look forward to seeing you in Düsseldorf, if only to offer you a good glass of wine!

Fluoride Removal with FLUORIDITE

FLUORIDITE is the new system developed by ALIT Technologies to reduce the concentration of fluorides in wastewater below the legal threshold.

Many production fields have the technical need to use particular chemical formulations with high concentrations of specific elements. For some specialised sectors in the surface treatment of steel, glass, and aluminium, for example, the use of products with high fluoride concentrations is unavoidable. However, there exist legal limits for the concentration of fluorides in surface and sewage water.

In the specific sector of aluminium coating, the continuous demand for higher productivity and pre-treatment quality has led to an increase in the use of chemicals, also resulting in critical issue in terms of waste water management.

A standard purification cycle, based mainly on an acidification phase (when necessary) followed by a neutralisation phase with lime, is very often not sufficient to achieve such low concentrations of fluorides, even with considerable dwell times in the line. In order to provide a truly effective solution to this problem without necessarily having to intervene at the plant engineering level, ALIT has developed FLUORIDITE, a liquid product that can be used directly on existing waste water treatment systems. FLUORIDITE allows to reduce the concentration of fluorides in wastewater below the legal limits.

In the article published on ipcm® International Paint&Coating Magazine (May/June 2022) n. 75, we deepen the technical characteristics of FLUORIDITE and present two case studies. Read the full article:
